As the Media and Public Relations Officer for ACM-W, I create visual content that promotes events and helps connect students with opportunities within the computing community at SCU. Working closely with other board members like the Event Coordinators, I help translate each event's purpose and audience into promotional materials for platforms including Instagram and our mailing list. Using Canva, I can create event flyers and social media graphics while experimenting with different visual styles, typography, layouts, colors, and imagery to give each event its own identity. This role has helped me strengthen my ability to design for different audiences while balancing creativity with clear communication, ensuring that important information such as event details, speakers, locations, and registration information remains easy to find and understand.
One of my favorite parts of this role is the opportunity to explore different visual styles rather than relying on a single design approach. From professional guest speaker events to collaborative workshops and social events, each project gives me the opportunity to experiment with new layouts and visual elements while creating designs that reflect the personality and purpose of the event. I tend to gravitate toward one particular design style, so working with a variety of events has pushed me to explore different visual styles that best reflect each event's purpose and audience.
